by Christian on 28. Juni 2005

Berlin, June 2005

To all up-and-coming filmmakers

AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF MAKING MOVIES
APPLY NOW FOR THE BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS #4

Dear Friends of Film, Dear Talent,

The APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE FOURTH BERLINALE TALENT
CAMPUS HAS JUST BEGUN. The Talent Campus provides
up-and-coming film professionals from all areas of the
industry with a unique opportunity to improve their skills
and to take part in the 56th Berlin International Film
Festival. The Berlinale Talent Campus #4 will take place
from 11th – 16th February 2006. More detailed information
and the application form can be found at
.

The fourth Talent Campus remains at the cutting edge of
filmmaking. As in previous years, leading experts from the
international film industry will be on hand to share their
knowledge and experience with the emerging generation of
filmmakers. The programme takes an in-depth look at the
“five Ps” of filmmaking: philosophy, pre-production,
production, post-production and promotion. There will also
be a special focus on the subject of EDITING. Meanwhile,
another exciting programme on the themes of HUNGER, FOOD AND
TASTE will savour the striking similarities between food and
film.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS #4
Applications for the Talent Campus can be submitted online
at < http://www.berlinale-talentcampus.de/app/start.php >.
Eligible to apply are up-and-coming directors,
screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, actors,
film-score composers, sound designers, film editors,
production designers and art directors.

A key part of the application process is the submission of a
SAMPLE OF WORK. You may either send a video of about one
minute in length, which can be something you produced
specifically for this occasion or a clip from some older
piece of work. Alternatively, send a short film on the
themes of Hunger, Food and tTaste, with a maximum length of
five minutes. If your short film is selected, it will be
presented as part of a Berlinale Special Screening.
Screenwriters, cinematographers, production designers, art
directors, sound designers and film-score composers may
submit an appropriate alternative sample of work.

The application deadline for the Talent Campus is 1st
November 2005. Successful applicants who are not German
citizens and who do not live in Germany will receive free
accommodation and a contribution towards their travel
expenses.

Talents who have taken part in a former Berlinale Talent
Campus (alumni) are welcome to apply for the short film
competition on Hunger, Food and Taste. Unfortunately travel
expenses and accommodation costs cannot be reimbursed to
former participants.

SHORT FILM COMPETITION ON HUNGER, FOOD AND TASTE
A special programme will compare film with food. Cooks and
filmmakers have a lot in common. Both work in media that,
ideally, provide people with enlightenment and pleasure;
both are involved in a continuous process of selection,
refinement and transformation.

To be part of the “Hunger, Food and Taste Special”, you must
submit a short film of up to five minutes in length.
We are looking for shorts dealing with the political,
economic or pleasurable aspects of food – whatever comes to
mind when you are hungry, eating or full after a good meal.
All genres are welcome: short features, documentaries or
animated films, tragedies or comedies. Your short films
should also comprise an introduction in which you present
yourself and mention your favourite food.

This section welcomes entries by alumni. Of course, new
applicants to the Talent Campus may also submit a short film
on the theme of food.
